a work in progress...

a few projects in the works...

jaxon's shelves for his big boy room

newly painted campaign dresser for the nursery

i bought a pair of owls at target for each room.  they were a dollar each, so i couldn't pass it up.
i think they were meant for an outdoor figurine because they were in the dollar aisle with all of the outdoor/spring inspired items.
all we did is spray them with a couple coats of paint:  jaxon got white and baby harper gets the gold

remember when i was talking about framing this fabric, well i did.

and how precious is this light fixture?!
i picked it up at an antique store.
i am so indecisive, but when i went into the store and saw it, i was purchasing it 20 minutes later after browsing the rest of the selection they had to offer.

and this beautifully delicate knit blanket for the crib.

i wanted to go subtle with the blanket, because i ended up getting this fabric for the sheets.
i ordered this in a turquoise background with a white pattern though.  i just love it!

so as you can see, we've been pretty busy around here. well, actually my husband has been busy painting all of this!
hopefully one day i'll get back on track with my posts:)

work area to work for

doesn't this office space make you want to work harder for a sophisticated, stylish space to call you own.  the crescent shaped table, the beautiful chair and zebra rug make it oh- so- lovely to me!

well written

a little detour from my normal content:  i had to share this with you...
this was taken from a blog- confessions of a reformed fat girl
and i thought it was written beautifully.  hope you enjoy.

Your mother is the one God whispers to first.
Whispers of your potential, whispers of your beauty, whispers of your souls promise. Mothers are our gateway to that which is the source of all understanding,
mothers are the window to Gods love.

decision no. 1: fabric choices

here are a couple fabric choices for the baby's nursery.
i think i'm going for an overall neutral color story, but with pops of turquoise, yellow and a hint of pink
i would choose 2-3 of the fabrics -at the most- and use them for toss pillows, a changing table pad or sheets
or maybe even frame one.

{pillow}

{sheets/changing table cover}

{framed "art"}

here are alternatives, just trying to incorporate a little pink.
but maybe i'll do that with accessories?
i'm not crazy about these....but they are still adorable

not so much in the room, but this would actually be cute for a receiving blanket, no?

i know it may look a bit busy all lined up in one little post, but if spread out in the space with just a couple-
it should work with all of the neutrals going on.

what do you think?

kitchen update: back splash installed!

we finished the back splash project in time to bring in the new year.  however, i have not been as diligent in taking photos of the finished product.  i had a few minutes this week so here it is.

just as a reminder:  here is what i started with.
-ugly light fixtures
-no back splash

and now here is the finished product.
along the way we installed new light fixtures both above the island and kitchen table
bought new stools from cb2
and finally the back splash!

not to mislead you- we had a professional take on this job and i'm glad we did.

here is a peak inside my cabinet.

and i just love this glass bowl from crate and barrel that currently holds my "cuties"

forget about the wallpaper

a trend recently has been bold wallpaper in the powder room.
i am all for it, what better way to jazz up a small little room, right.

then i saw this:  carved wood panels. sleek. simple. stylish.
and since my mind has been on nurseries and big boy rooms, wouldn't these panels look great in either of the rooms?

glammed out at the oscars no, 2

A few more that I can't forget to mention:

Halle Berry in Marchesa
now this is the Ms. Berry we know and love, she looks delightful!

Natalie Portman in Rodarte
seems like everyone got their act together for the night
we knew she could do it!

Helen Mirren in Vivienne Westwood
she is my idol, i only hope to look as gorgeous as she does when i get older
i don't think i've ever seen her dress bad for an event

Hilary Swank in Gucci
sometimes feathers can be too young, not this time.
very classy and elegant-love!

Camilla Alves and Mathew McConauhey
Camilla really brought it and somehow managed to make Mathew look-eh...

there were so many gorgeous dresses i don't know if i can pick a favorite now
but if you twisted my arm, it goes to either halle or mila

who's your favorite?

glammed out at the oscars

I'm highlighting nothing but the gorgeous and glamorous at the 2011 Academy Awards.
My pick for best dressed: Mila Kunis

Mila Kunis in Ellie Saab

Mandy Moore in Monique Lhuillier
{looked better on t.v}

Anne Hathaway in Valentino

Jennifer Hudson in Versace

Scarlett Johansson in Dolce & Gabbana

Thanks to Just Jared, I was able to get all of these images!  I also liked Giulianna Rancic and Kelly Osbourne from E!- couldn't get an image of either of them.

not PINK

i like the idea of not using the standard pink or purple for a little girl's room.
here are a couple super cute and still 'girly' rooms without using pink as the main color.

love the pop of b&w

the use of bright white as a background really balance the bright colors

i am in LOVE with this room
the headboards, dual chandeliers and the bedskirts!

what i love about this room is the neutral pallette with touches of
rich jewel toned accessories. it's soothing to the eye without being the least bit boring or predictable.

these are some of my color inspirations for the nursery.  i kow, such a change from my first set of inspiration photos, but i think this is more up my alley, especially the last two rooms.
what do you think?  or are you a pink kinda girl?
